Research Line

Solid earth processes and associated hazards

Principal investigator

Gabriel González

Professor of the Department of Geological Sciences of Universidad Católica del Norte, Dr. González specializes in ductile deformation, fault analysis, and interaction between faults and morphology. He has participated in international projects related to the study of deformation processes in subduction zones.

The efforts of this line of research are to understand the natural threats generated by the geological conditions of the country: earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and mass wasting processes. The objective is to anticipate its impact for the population and the built environment of Chile. The line also seeks to monitor these threats in order to develop an effective early warning system.
