The Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management, CIGIDEN (www.cigiden.cl) is a multidisciplinary research center funded by ANID with research teams located in Santiago, Valparaíso, and Antofagasta. CIGIDEN brings together researchers from various fields (e.g., Sociology, Urban Planning, Geography, Psychology, Engineering, and Geosciences) and is supported by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad Católica del Norte, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, and the Universidad Nacional Andrés Bello.
The aim of CIGIDEN is to produce excellence-level and interdisciplinary research on all aspects of the disaster cycle (preparedness, response, participation, recovery, and mitigation) thus seeking to reduce the disaster impacts by building more resilient communities.
The Postdoctoral Position
CIGIDEN is seeking applications for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in civil, ocean and/or construction engineering. The position is part of a multidisciplinary project that integrates different research lines, focused on fundamental aspects related with the exposure and vulnerability of port infrastructure under earthquake, tsunami and coastal storms. Specifically, the successful candidate will work in the development of fragility curves for port infrastructure, coastal works and/or industrial facilities under the impact of tsunami, earthquakes, coastal storms or a combination of them, including scenarios of sea level change.
The researcher will work in a multidisciplinary team, which includes specialists in coastal hydrodynamics, structural analysis and design of critical port and coastal infrastructure. The study area will be central Chile; specifically, in the port cities of Valparaíso and San Antonio.
The postdoctoral position is for a minimum of 20 months period and is available immediately and open until filled. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Dr. Rosita Jünemann from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and Dr. Patricio Winckler, from the School of Ocean Engineering at Universidad de Valparaíso.
She/he is expected to produce at least one peer reviewed article per year. The successful candidate is also expected to actively participate in the activities of CIGIDEN.
The postdoctoral researcher will undergo a mid-term evaluation by the end of Year 1.
Requirements

- As preferred skills, the candidate should master structural analysis and design of port and coastal infrastructure, and, preferably, be familiar with structural codes (e.g., ASCE 7 Ch. 7, NCh. 3663, among others)
- The candidate must show a proven research background.
- The candidate must be fluent in English, particularly for writing purposes.
- The applicant will reside in Santiago or Valparaíso, in Central Chile.
