Within the framework of a continuity plan for the next 10 years, the CIGIDEN team has developed a proposal that will be implemented in the period 2024-2025. Thus, CIGIDEN has defined a transition driven by «Interdisciplinary Research Challenges» where researchers from different lines work collaboratively on projects grouped in Work Packages (WPs).
This call for a postdoctoral researcher position is to be part of WP3: «Multi risk assessment and impacts of critical infrastructure disruptions». The main objective of the WP3 project is to develop multi-risk probabilistic models based on current models for road infrastructure, drinking water systems and electricity grid. In a novel way, it is expected that these models integrate multiple hazards combining probabilities of occurrence in addition to considering spatial and temporal uncertainty considering the useful life of the infrastructure under analysis.
This postdoctoral call for WP3 is looking for a postdoctoral researcher interested in developing interdisciplinary research together with a team of researchers from various areas (engineering, geology, geography, urban planning). Experience in simulation and integration of multiple hazards in risk assessment in urban drinking and/or wastewater systems is required.
In particular, the objectives to be developed during the postdoctoral period are the following:
- Analyze the spatial and temporal interactions of multiple hazards that affect urban water infrastructure during its life cycle.
- Develop a model to assess resilience considering the concept of multi-hazard in the field of drinking water systems.
The candidate must demonstrate research, leadership and teamwork skills in an interdisciplinary environment. In addition, the selected candidate is expected to collaborate with the WP3 team on the different objectives of the project. The postdoc researcher will need to generate at least two articles to submit to journals indexed in WoS. In the case of meeting the requirements, the candidate must apply to the ANID Postdoctoral Program.
Funding will be provided by the CIGIDEN. It will be developed until November 2025, with the possibility of extension subject to obtaining funding and internal evaluation.
The gross monthly amount is CLP$2,147,250, full-time.
The workplace will be CIGIDEN, Santiago de Chile, with the possibility of temporarily remote work with prior agreement with the responsible researchers.
Requirements:
Applicants must have a PhD degree obtained in one of the following areas: Engineering, Mathematics, Geography or related areas. Having carried out interdisciplinary research in the predoctoral and/or postdoctoral stage will be positively valued.
Interested candidates should send an email to Maria Molinos Senante (mmolinos@uc.cl) and Tomás Echaveguren (techaveg@udec.cl) with the subject «WP3 Postdoctoral Application». Applications will be reviewed as they are received, giving priority to those received before May 10, 2024. The following information must be attached to the application:
- Curriculum Vitae including the contact details of two references whom we can contact for recommendations.
- Research proposal that includes a general formulation of the research, objectives, methodology and work plan (maximum 3 pages).
- Letter of motivation and link to the topic of the project, research interests and the expected contribution to the project.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation.
The selected candidates will be contacted via email and will be called to a first interview in virtual mode.
